Comfort me!

Winter is back. My schedule is full. My to-do list is a mile long. I need some comfort food! I have already blog-whined about the serious shortage of snacks and desserts in my life. So I decided to check the fridge and the internet for something that might comfort me. Found it!

It's custard! Made from fresh brown eggs from the farmers market, local honey, and goat's milk - all legal ingredients for me!

Kay's Honey Custard

4 eggs
1 1/2 C goat milk
1/2 C honey
scrapings from 1/2 a vanilla bean
pinch of salt
cinnamon for sprinkling

Beat the eggs. Add milk and honey to the eggs in the top of a double boiler. (I sat my small pan in a larger pan of water.) Stir constantly over medium heat until the mixture thickens. Add the salt and vanilla scrapings. Taste. Yum! Pour into custard cups and sprinkle with cinnamon. Chill. Indulge!

Make yourself some custard, and come back to see what's popping up in my yard.

And . . .

Look! It's my first asparagus spear!

I hope we all feel better now!

Fresh asparagus - HOW COOL! We've got some herbs started in doors, some lettuce started outdoors, and some herbs and other goodies outside too. We're just hoping that they survive the ups/downs of our wacky weather (15 overnight the other night, and 67 during the day today!).

Hi Steve,

Good for you for getting a head start! My indoor sprouts are yearning for some real sun.

Spring is certainly fickle! I covered my outdoor plantings of radishes, lettuce and peas for the last two nights. Supposed to warm up today.

Good morning Kay,

your backyard makes us very jealous. Here the grass is stil brown, having just been uncovered from a long winter.

Oh well. Choices we make.

Your custard shows that simple is good.

Hi Melanie,

Hope you enjoyed the sunshine of Easter weekend!

Hi H. Peter,

The weather is slooooooowly warming up. Just a few asparagus have sprouted. Had a sunny weekend. Got to work on chicken coop construction. I can't wait to have my own flock!

Wow, Kay, I'm blown away. I know that custard is out of this world given the ingredients, but all those spectacular flowers and asparagus--awesome!

Cold weather is still holding on for a few more days. Hubby just put some more wood on the patio ...

Oh my gosh, I need a dose of that comfort custard! I'm good with all those ingredients too. I'm definitely lifting that recipe off your blog.

:-)

I've been treating myself with goat kefir lately. It is sooo good.

Your flower photos are amazing! Several years ago I lived in a house that had asparagus popping up all over the place -- it was wonderful.

Daddy cat sure is a cutie.
